It is 8 pm. The sun set long ago behind the Belledonne ridges. The resort has fallen quiet; the day’s skiers have put away their skis, and the children are tucked up warm. And yet… the ski lifts are still running. Spotlights cut through the snow in the pitch-black night. And a few lucky souls, wrapped up in their ski wear, are about to experience something rather magical.
Welcome to night skiing at Le Collet.
An extraordinary skiing experience
Night-time skiing isn’t just about skiing at an unusual time. It’s a different way of experiencing the mountains. Your bearings change, shadows dance across the snow, the air is crisper, and the slopes are quieter. You feel both smaller and freer.
At Le Collet, the night-time ski area is no mere sideshow: it comprises 10 fully floodlit runs, served by three chairlifts and two drag lifts, stretching from the summit of the ski area at an altitude of 2,140 metres down to the bottom of the resort at 1,450 metres. It’s no surprise that Le Collet is recognised as one of Europe’s largest night-time ski areas. A rare distinction, and a treat for anyone who loves to ski off the beaten track — or rather, outside the usual opening hours.
