It’s 8pm. The sun has long since set behind the peaks of the Belledonne. The resort has fallen asleep, the day skiers have put their skis away and the children are in the warmth. And yet… the ski lifts are still turning. The floodlights cut through the snow in the dark of night. And a lucky few, bundled up in their ski clothes, are about to experience something a little bit magical.
Welcome to night skiing at Le Collet.
An extraordinary skiing experience
Skiing at night isn’t just about skiing out of time. It’s another way of experiencing the mountains. The landmarks change, the shadows play on the snow, the air is crisper and the slopes quieter. You feel smaller and freer at the same time.
At Le Collet, the night-time ski area is by no means anecdotal: there are 10 fully-lit runs, served by three chairlifts and two drag lifts, stretching from the top of the area at 2,140 metres to the bottom of the resort at 1,450 metres. It’s not for nothing that Le Collet is recognised as one of Europe’s great night skiing areas. A rare distinction, and an opportunity for all those who like to ski off the beaten track – or rather, off the beaten track.
