Le Collet

A whole history

Situated 50 km from Grenoble and Chambéry, on the outskirts of the commune of Allevard-les-Bains, Le Collet was founded in 1955 as one of the very first ski resorts in France. Thanks to the determination of the Mayor at the time, Marcel Dumas, and the first members of the ski club, the beginnings of the Collet resort were put in place.

Le Collet

A little history

The first chairlifts

The first chairlift was installed at Malatrait by the commune of Allevard, at a time when only one 12-bedroom hotel was open to tourists. It wasn’t until 1956 that the first ski lift was built nearby, followed by a second in 1960, marking the start of a significant acceleration in the development of the resort. Le Collet really took off in 1964, with the installation of the Bellatrait ski lift, followed by the Grand Collet chairlift in 1965, marking the start of a major growth phase in which a new ski lift was built every year.

The 1968 Grenoble Olympics were a real boon for the resort, which added new hotel facilities such as the Chamois d’Or and Arolles residences. Development continued until the 1980s, before slowing down due to lack of space.

Night skiing

While developing its ski lifts, Le Collet sought to stand out from the crowd by diversifying its activities. It was in this spirit that night skiing facilities were created. Today, the resort has 27 runs and 35 km of downhill runs, and is one of the few resorts to offer this type of experience: a speciality that contributes greatly to its unique identity.
